Biosketch

Dr. Katte is an early-career investigator, a pioneer member of the Cameroon Academy of Young Scientist, and a postgraduate scholar with the Global Health Diabetes Research Group at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom studying the characteristics of type 1 diabetes in sub-Saharan Africa. He is also a Specialist Physician in Public Health Medicine with core competences in NCD and diabetes research, prevention and control programmes. Dr Katte completed his medical training at the University of Yaounde 1 where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2011, a Master’s in Public Health (Biotechnology) in 2016 and in Clinical Epidemiology in 2018. He also completed his residency training at the same university in Public Health Medicine in 2020. Dr Katte also has a vast experience working as a primary care diabetes physician in rural and semi-urban setting in Cameroon where he pioneered the creation of a diabetes and hypertension treatment centre at one of the Regional Hospitals in Cameroon in 2013. He served as the study coordinator of the H3Africa Diabetes Study in Cameroon between 2015 and 2017 providing support and guidance to the recruitment of over 1600 participants into the study. Dr Katte also works as a Research Associate and Programmes and Training Lead for the RSD Institute which is an independent research and consultancy organisation based in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Dr Katte is passionate about building capacity in research and clinical leadership for young physicians and other biomedical scientists in sub-Saharan Africa. He leads the Junior Leadership Forum (JLF) Cameroon which is a platform which “aspires to inspire” young Cameroonians to venture into science and technology as a motor for social and community development. Dr Katte is also interested in questions pertaining to the relationship between science and religion. He has also completed an initial training in divinity (theology) studies and he is a graduate of the Nations Hope Bible Institute.

Dr Katte is currently being supported for his PhD by the NIHR Global Health Group at the University of Exeter: Improving outcomes in sub-Saharan African diabetes through better diagnosis and treatment (grant reference 17/63/131). His research is focused on studying the phenotype of patients with young-onset insulin treated diabetes in sub-Saharan African populations.

He has authored and co-authored over 30 scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
